Woman choked to death while eating at her partner's Romford home, court hears
Briefly

Donna Bentham, 52, collapsed in Romford and was pronounced dead after an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. An initial assessment could not determine a clear cause of death, leading to a post-mortem examination which revealed she died from asphyxiation by food bolus and obesity. The coroner, Graeme Irvine, has ordered an inquest to explore the circumstances surrounding her death and whether similar incidents can be prevented in the future. Her family is also encouraged to provide relevant details about her life and health for the inquest.
Given those circumstances, I will open an inquest. Inquests are public court hearings, held in the public interest, to investigate the causes of unnatural or unexplained deaths.
Asphyxiation by food bolus would be an unnatural cause of death, the coroner said.
