Financial cuts to special educational needs support could severely impact families who depend on such services. A mother from Hertfordshire, Renata Watts, shared how her son's life was transformed through the help of an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). These plans were implemented in 2014 to provide comprehensive support by combining education, health, and social care for young individuals. Currently, the government is contemplating overhauling the system due to perceived exclusions of children from mainstream education. Without that EHCP, significant mental health concerns may arise.
Cuts to special educational needs support could be devastating for families, a mother has warned, saying her son's education, mental health and life, were saved by specialist help.
EHCPs were introduced in 2014 to replace statements of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It brings together education, health and social care in one legally binding plan for young people.
