What is slapping therapy? Self-healing philosophy critics say has no scientific basis
Briefly

Xiao Hongchi, 61, was convicted of manslaughter by gross negligence after a 71-year-old woman died following his controversial Paida Lajin therapy, where participants are slapped.
During the trial, evidence revealed that before Danielle Carr-Gomm died, she had told the workshop group she had stopped taking her insulin, hoping for a cure from Xiao.
A chef at the retreat described hearing slapping, crying, and howling sounds coming from Mrs. Carr-Gomm's room, similar to the noises associated with Paida Lajin therapy.
Xiao, who had faced prior legal issues over another death linked to his therapy in Australia, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in Carr-Gomm's death.
