"Dramatic footage captures the moment passengers screamed in terror after their bus crashed at Victoria station, leaving 17 injured including the double-decker's driver and a peer. The collision happened on Victoria Street at around 8.20am on Thursday, the Metropolitan Police said. Cross-bench peer Lord Alton of Liverpool, a former Lib Dem MP, was among those hurt and was taken to hospital with head injuries and a fracture on his spine."
"Civil servant Lionel Khoo, 57, who was heading to work in Westminster, claimed the bus had been going faster than usual. It all happened very quickly, he said. Suddenly, he (the driver) veered a little bit, and then we had crashed. The lady sitting in front of me fell on top of me - and the glass shattered and crashed onto us. Then everyone was screaming."
Seventeen people were injured when a double-decker bus crashed at Victoria Street around 8.20am, including the driver and cross-bench peer Lord Alton of Liverpool. Lord Alton was taken to hospital with head injuries and a spinal fracture; his family said recovery will take time. Witnesses described the bus as unusually fast before it veered off the road and crashed, shattering the windscreen and causing glass to fall onto passengers. A trail of diesel prompted police to ban smoking nearby. Two people were treated at the scene and 15 were taken to hospital. No life-threatening injuries were reported and no arrests were made. Police have opened an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
