The UK has been experiencing unusually warm weather due to high pressure drawing warmer air from the south. Thursday is expected to be the warmest day of the year so far, likely reaching around 20°C in southern areas and remaining sunny, with some fair-weather clouds. However, a transition to unsettled weather is expected by the weekend, with rain moving from the southwest northeastward, leading to showers and cooler temperatures on Saturday and Sunday.
High pressure to the east of the UK is helping to draw warmer air north across the country, resulting in temperatures well above average for the time of year.
While Friday will be another warm day for many, we start to see some wet weather arriving, initially in Cornwall but gradually moving to parts of Wales and central and southern England later in the day.
Unsettled weather, with occasional rain or showers for many, will continue on Sunday, with plenty of cloud around as well.
Thursday is likely to see temperatures peak as part of this meteorological set-up, likely reaching around 20°C in some spots in the south.
