""I just saw the bus driver crying out. I just ran to him, ask him if he was okay and then he just started saying 'there's something wrong with that bus'. And then he just asked us to check the passengers. So we just ran around, opened the door and tried to get people out, everyone who we could. Without the bollards, it would have run over us.""

Shortly after 8am a bus mounted the pavement close to Victoria Station, injuring 17 people and the bus driver. Emergency services rushed to the scene and the injured were taken to hospital. Maintenance workers reported fainting people, passengers covered in blood, and glass scattered across the floor. Eyewitnesses heard a "massive explosion" and described chaotic scenes as bystanders helped evacuate passengers and attend to the injured. Bollards prevented the vehicle from causing further harm. Police opened an investigation, appealed for witnesses and mobile footage, and warned the road would remain closed for hours.
