Ukraine updates: UK's Starmer to meet Trump in Washington DW 02/27/2025
Briefly

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the White House as tensions arose among European leaders feeling excluded from Ukraine war negotiations. President Trump emphasized his commitment to securing a beneficial deal for both sides, aiming to restore lost Ukrainian territories. His administration has demonstrated a willingness to make significant concessions to Russia, such as during a UN vote that condemned the invasion. Just before Trump's meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, they are set to finalize a controversial agreement involving the exchange of rare earth minerals for US assistance.
"We're going to do the best we can to make the best deal we can for both sides," US President Donald Trump said Wednesday at a US Cabinet meeting.
Since taking office, the US president has shown himself willing to make major concessions to Moscow, including siding with Russia during a UN vote on condemning the invasion.
The meeting with Starmer comes a day before Trump is sent to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to sign a contentious agreement.
For Ukraine, we're going to try very hard to make a good deal so that they can get as much (land) back as possible.
