Natiq Malikzada, an Afghan anti-Taliban activist, was assaulted in a Home Office asylum hotel, having previously faced conflict with pro-Taliban asylum seekers. Malikzada arrived in the UK on a study visa and claimed asylum after his course. He expressed distress over the presence of fellow Afghan asylum seekers who supported the Taliban and engaged in disagreements over women’s rights. On 13 February, he was attacked in his hotel room, suffering non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested two men in connection with the incident, describing it as isolated.
