Jon Ruben, of Wayte Court in Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, is accused of child cruelty offences relating to three boys who fell ill at the summer holiday event at Stathern Lodge in Leicestershire last month. Appearing at Leicester Crown Court on Friday, wearing a dark grey sweatshirt, he spoke only to confirm his name during a brief 16-minute hearing."
"Ruben was not asked to enter pleas to three counts of wilfully assaulting, ill-treating, neglecting, abandoning or exposing children in a manner likely to cause them unnecessary suffering or injury to health between 25 and 29 July. He was remanded in custody until his plea hearing on 14 November. A provisional trial date was set for 27 January next year. The hearing is expected to last four weeks."

Ruben was arrested on suspicion of administering poison or a noxious thing with intent in a nearby pub car park and was remanded in custody until a plea hearing on 14 November. A provisional four-week trial is set to begin on 27 January. Leicestershire Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after amending the reported date of the incident.
