Growers in the UK are experiencing an extraordinary strawberry harvest this spring, thanks to a perfect weather combination of abundant sunshine and cool nights. The combination of lots of sunshine and cool nights has resulted in strawberries that are 10% to 20% larger, producing berries that are sometimes so big you can't fit them in your mouth.
The cool overnight temperatures enable the fruit to ripen slowly, allowing more time for cell expansion, which leads to consistently larger strawberries this season.
We're seeing very good size, shape, appearance, and most of all, really great flavour and sugar content, which are essential for consumers buying British strawberries.
This year's strawberry season has produced berries that are bigger and tastier than ever, marking an unprecedented harvest for growers like the Summer Berry Company.
