Three women charged with criminal damage after incident at Shannon Airport where garda was injured

On May 17, 2025, three women breached the perimeter fence at Shannon Airport, leading to criminal damage on a Boeing 767 aircraft. The women, aged between 20 and 50, were arrested after throwing red paint on the aircraft. The incident temporarily halted airport operations and forced several planes into holding patterns. A Garda officer was injured during the arrests but is reported to be non-life threatening. The women face charges of criminal damage and trespass, appearing in court shortly after the incident was resolved.
During the course of the arrests, one member of An Garda Síochána was injured and has since been taken to University Hospital Limerick for assessment.
