Ten Charing Cross police officers face fast-track misconduct hearings in weeks
"After watching Panorama last week and seeing the behaviour for myself, I requested the early consideration of accelerated misconduct hearings, and I welcome the IOPC's decision to pursue this course of action. We have worked together to deliver this uncompromising approach at greater speed than ever before and the hearings will take place by the end of the month. Londoners would expect nothing less and for those found responsible to be exited from the Met and off the payroll as soon as possible."
"The Independent Office for Police Conduct says three police sergeants, five police constables, a former Met PC and a Gloucestershire officer who transferred from the Met are said to have breached standards of professional behaviour and will be before panels in the coming weeks. Last Thursday, a sergeant was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice relating to an incident that took place at Charing Cross on October 2 - the day after the show aired."
Recorded incidents showed officers calling for immigrants to be shot, reveling in the use of force and being dismissive of rape claims. The Independent Office for Police Conduct says three police sergeants, five police constables, a former Met PC and a Gloucestershire officer who transferred from the Met are alleged to have breached professional standards and will appear before panels. A sergeant was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice over an incident at Charing Cross on October 2. Nine officers and one staff member were suspended within 48 hours and the Charing Cross custody team was disbanded. Leadership changes and wider reviews of detention teams have begun.
