Teacher who turned up at primary school assembly drunk is banned from classroom
Briefly

Ashley Atkin, a Year One teacher, faced disciplinary action for arriving at Horn's Mill Primary School smelling of alcohol and displaying signs of intoxication. Despite having only worked there for a month, she was observed by colleagues acting dazed and staggering during a school assembly. An investigation revealed she had consumed a bottle and a glass of wine prior to her shift. Following her conviction for a prior alcohol-related driving offense, the teaching panel prohibited her from teaching in any educational setting in England.
A Teaching Regulation Agency investigation found that Atkin arrived at work having drunk a bottle and glass of wine early that morning.
The teaching panel concluded her behaviour brought the teaching profession into disrepute, prohibiting her from teaching indefinitely in any educational setting.
