In late May, Kenyan President William Ruto addressed Tanzanian MPs, seeking forgiveness for any past grievances, a move that polarized opinions in Kenya. This came shortly after Kenyan activist Boniface Mwangi returned from Tanzania, where he claims he was tortured and raped following his arrest while supporting opposition leader Tundu Lissu. The Tanzanian government denied these accusations, asserting that Mwangi violated their laws. Analysts suggest the harsh treatment of activists is driven by fears of unrest, similar to protests seen in Kenya last year amid political turmoil and economic uncertainty.
We were treated worse than dogs, Mwangi said after returning to Nairobi.
Do they have proof of these atrocities? They cannot just tarnish the country with allegations for which they have no evidence.
