Summer camp leader jailed for drugging and sexually abusing young boys
"Jon Ruben, who was labelled by his wife as a "sadistic, monstrous paedophile", used the "cloak of Christianity" to carry out his sex attacks on vulnerable children, Leicester Crown Court heard. Sentencing judge Timothy Spencer KC told the 76-year-old he would serve a further period on licence, bringing his total sentence to 31 years and eight months. Ruben laced sweets with tranquilising drugs and attacked two children last year"
"At his sentencing hearing on Friday, Judge Spencer told Ruben: "Ultimately, this case is about you achieving sexual gratification by carrying out your sexual fantasies focused upon young boys through careful, cynical, chilling preparation and by manipulation." Parents of Jon Ruben's young victims nodded and some wiped tears as the judge handed down the sentence. Ruben, who stood in the dock with his hands clasped in front of him, did not react as he was jailed."
Jon Ruben, 76, drugged and sexually assaulted young boys at a summer camp while presenting himself under a religious guise. He laced sweets with temazepam and played a "sweet game" to facilitate abuse of boys aged between eight and 11, and admitted multiple offences including sexual assault, child cruelty, making indecent images, drug offences, and administering a noxious substance to his partner to prevent detection. Judge Timothy Spencer described the actions as cynical, chilling manipulation to achieve sexual gratification and imposed a total sentence of 31 years and eight months plus a further licence period. Victims' parents reacted emotionally and his wife said she felt completely betrayed.
