The Met Office has put two weather warnings in place on Wednesday, with gusts expected to reach 85mph and the potential for power cuts, mobile phone blackouts, and damage to buildings.
A wind speed of 155mph has already been recorded in the Faroe Islands, far stronger than any gust seen during the UK's Great 1987 Storm.
