"Resident Violet Small has been leading the charge to get management to take back control of the room, which she described as being in an absolutely disgusting state. She added: It feels like this place has to burn down, risking people's lives, in order for you lot (the housing association) to get your finger out your backside and do something."
"During a recent visit to the building, Violet told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) about the issues being caused. Every time we get squatters in, they cause untold damage, she said, pointing to a broken door being used as a sleeping mat and the ripped wiring throughout the room. Violet told the LDRS she recently had to remove a used tampon from the space using gloves."
Rubbish filled a communal electricity room after a takeover by apparent homeless people. Residents of Poet's Court on Clifford Road, South Norwood urged landlord L&Q to secure the 23-flat social housing block after new locks were repeatedly broken. Resident Violet Small led efforts to regain control and described the room as absolutely disgusting, warning it might burn down. The lock had been broken weeks before Christmas, leaving the electricity room accessible. Squatters caused damage, ripped wiring, left sanitary waste, and plugged fan heaters and electric radiators into sockets beside the meters. The fire brigade attended on January 2, judged the situation dangerous, and instructed L&Q to secure the building before they could leave.
