"impression that she might actually progress things"
"What inspired me to take action was that when these the two boys went to buy the fireworks, they said clearly they were going to terrorise people and they went on to do exactly as they said."
"what are the good ones to let off at people?"
"was chased down the high street by some children firing fireworks at her and her own kids"
Alan Smith from Romford has campaigned to restrict fireworks sales since his 88-year-old mother Josephine Smith died in 2021 after two teenagers, Kai Cooper (18) and 15-year-old Callum Dunne, put a lit firework through her letterbox, causing a fatal fire. Cooper reportedly asked a shopkeeper, 'what are the good ones to let off at people?' before the pair threw fireworks at passing cars and into shop doorways. Smith met under secretary of state Kate Dearden and felt she might progress regulatory change. MPs debated two petitions calling for tougher fireworks regulations and shared accounts of harassment and animal distress.
