Blackhillock, Europe's largest battery facility located in Scotland, now offers 200MW of electricity and has a storage capacity of 400MWh. Operated by Zenobē, the site, which is charged by offshore and onshore wind energy, will expand to 300MW/600MWh by 2026, allowing it to supply power to 3.1 million homes. UK energy minister Michael Shanks praised the development for reducing reliance on fossil fuels and said it will save households over £170 million in bills while cutting CO2 emissions significantly. The facility's energy reaches major cities, enhancing Scotland's clean energy infrastructure.
According to Zenobē, the firm operating Blackhillock, the facility will expand to 300MW/600MWh by 2026, storing energy to supply electricity to 3.1 million homes.
UK energy minister Michael Shanks welcomed Blackhillock's debut, stating that battery sites help store clean energy, reduce reliance on fossil fuels, and enhance energy security.
Zenobē claims Blackhillock will save £170 million over the next 15 years on household bills compared to natural gas electricity generation, avoiding 2.6 million tons of CO2.
Blackhillock, located near Keith, Scotland, is Europe's largest battery, delivering 200MW and storing 400MWh, powered by offshore and onshore wind turbines.
