Salvadoran ex-army officers convicted for murder of Dutch journalists

A court in El Salvador has sentenced three former military leaders to 15 years in prison for their involvement in the 1982 killings of four Dutch journalists. The journalists were ambushed in Chalatenango while filming a documentary about the civil war. The convicted officials include former Defence Minister José Guillermo García, who was already under police guard in a hospital, and his co-defendants Francisco Morán and Mario Adalberto Reyes Mena, who lives in the US. García had been previously deported from the US for human rights violations.
In 1982, four Dutch journalists were ambushed by the Salvadoran army while documenting the civil war, leading to the conviction of three military officials for their deaths.
The court found three former military officials guilty, including former Defence Minister José Guillermo García, who remains under police guard at a hospital.
