Regent's Park Outer Circle to have new pedestrian crossings to curb cyclist 'velodrome'
"At the time, the Royal Parks said that they had launched a review into improving pedestrian safety and discouraging dangerous cycling in Regent's Park. The organisation launched a considerate cycling campaign in April 2025, in which a survey revealed that almost three-quarters of London pedestrians (72%) had witnessed or experienced a near miss or collision with a cyclist. Almost a year on, measures are finally being implemented."
"The new crossings will be installed at three locations on the Outer Circle: Monkey Hill Gate, Chester Gate, and Kent Passage. Construction is scheduled to be completed by Spring 2026. Royal Parks is responsible for many of London's most adored open spaces, including Regent's Park Darren Share, Director of Parks, The Royal Parks, says: These wonderful, urban green spaces are incredibly important to so many people, and it's vital that they remain safe and welcoming for everyone."
Signalised pedestrian crossings are planned for the Outer Circle of Regent's Park to improve pedestrian safety and reduce collisions. The Royal Parks charity and the Crown Estate Paving Commission are managing the project. The measures follow a fatal incident in which Hilda Griffiths was struck by a cyclist completing timed laps at 29mph in a 20mph zone; she died 59 days later. An inquest found that speed limits do not apply to pedal bikes, so no prosecution followed.
