John Glenton, executive director at the housing association Riverside, said: 'Some children are now spending around a third of their entire childhood living in temporary accommodation rather than a permanent family home. This is not acceptable in one of the world's richest nations.'
The District Councils' Network (DCN) highlights that councils are expected to spend an extra 400,000 on average this year for temporary accommodation, representing a 33% increase.
New annual figures reveal that the number of households in temporary accommodation surged to 117,450, marking a 12.3% year-on-year increase, with 74,530 of those being families with children.
With the current homelessness crisis escalating, the annual statistics indicate that the number of children in temporary accommodation has significantly increased, with thousands now exposed to this unstable living situation far too long.
