Record number of Americans are seeking residency in UK, according to Home Office
Briefly

In the year leading up to March, over 6,000 US citizens sought British citizenship or indefinite residency, marking a record high since 2004. Following significant applications during Trump's second presidency, there has been a notable increase, especially in early 2025. While the UK government, under Labour leadership, aims to limit immigration, the surge in applications indicates a response to the polarized US political climate. Immigration lawyers in the UK have reported an increase in inquiries from Americans seeking security options abroad.

Keir Starmer, the PM, warned that uncontrolled immigration could result in the country becoming an island of strangers, not a nation that walks forward together.
