Raw sewage spills into rivers and seas in England reached record high last year

Environment Agency data showed there were 3.6 million hours of spills in 2023, double the previous year's amount.

Dry spilling, banned due to its environmental and health risks, was carried out for approximately 3,500 hours by three water companies in 2022.
