Rail services shut down as huge fire breaks out at south London station
"Rail services were halted after a massive fire broke out on train tracks between Peckham and Bermondsey on Tuesday evening, causing travel chaos for Londoners. The fire broke out between Queen's Road Peckham and South Bermondsey railway stations. Three fire engines and approximately 15 firefighters were rushed to the scene, trains were stopped in both directions and power was cut. In videos shared to social media, the huge fire can be seen illuminating the night sky."
"Fire crews are tackling a fire on train tracks above arches. Passengers have been evacuated from Queen's Road Peckham Railway station. There are no reports of any injuries. Trains have been stopped in both directions and the power on the tracks has been isolated to allow fire crews to gain access to the track. The Brigade's 999 Control officers received the first of 90 calls at 2049 alerting them to the fire."
A large fire on tracks between Queen's Road Peckham and South Bermondsey forced trains to stop in both directions and led to power isolation on the lines. Approximately three fire engines and around 15 firefighters attended, and passengers were evacuated from Queen's Road Peckham station. Emergency control received around 90 calls, with the first at 20:49. ThamesLink and Transport for London reported closures and warned of disruption and delays, with services suspended until later that night. Trains resumed service by the early hours, and there were no reports of injuries.
