Despite boos from fans, no action was taken against McIntyre by the referee. The Irish Football Association is aware and stated procedures for any formal referrals would be followed. Both team managers did not witness the incident, raising concerns about adherence to regulations in football.
The PSNI has confirmed that they received a report of an assault involving Carrick Rangers goalkeeper Jack McIntyre, with inquiries currently ongoing regarding the incident.
Following the incident, Cliftonville fans expressed their displeasure vocally, booing McIntyre throughout the remainder of the match.
Both Carrick Rangers manager Stephen Baxter and Cliftonville manager Jim Magilton stated they did not see the incident, bringing into question the enforcement of rules.
The Irish FA stated that if the incident is formally referred, normal disciplinary protocols will be followed in accordance with established procedures.
