Pornhub to restrict access for UK users from next week with one exception
"Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"Canadian adult entertainment conglomerate Aylo, owner of Pornhub, YouPorn, and Redtube, confirmed new UK registrations will be blocked from 2 February. Existing, age-verified UK users will, however, retain access. The decision follows rules introduced last July under the Online Safety Act (OSA), mandating strong age checks for pornography sites to prevent children from accessing harmful material. Aylo criticised the OSA, stating it has "made the internet more dangerous for minors and adults" and "jeopardises the privacy and personal data of UK citizens.""
The Independent solicits donations to fund on-the-ground reporting across major US issues and maintains open access by refusing paywalls, relying on those who can afford to pay. Pornhub owner Aylo will block new UK registrations from 2 February, while allowing existing age-verified UK users to keep access. The move responds to the Online Safety Act’s mandatory strong age checks for pornography sites, which Aylo says has made the internet more dangerous and jeopardised UK users' privacy. Research cited indicates many adult users have accessed sites without age checks since the new verification rules began.
