Mr. Murphy, a TD from Dublin, participated in a protest against the blockade of aid into Gaza. Following his initial detention and the confiscation of his passport, he attempted to retrieve his mobile phone in Cairo but was detained again. His partner has called on the Irish government to secure his release along with other protesters, emphasizing the humanitarian goal of their mission to deliver aid to those in need in Gaza.
While Mr Murphy was later released and had his passport returned last week, his mobile phone was held by authorities, according to a statement from the Dublin TD's party.
He just attempted to leave but has been prevented from doing so by the police. Other participants in the Global March to Gaza are also detained, the party added.
