One of Ireland's best-known pharmacists, Cormac O'Connell, dies at 83
Briefly

Kate O'Connell's father-in-law, a prominent businessman, was well-known for his successful pharmacy chain and was a victim of a violent home invasion in 2002. He passed away recently, following a private funeral service. In the tragic raid, his family endured a harrowing experience, locked in car boots while intruders ransacked their home. After the incident, he sold his chain of chemists for €25 million. His son memorialized him as a charismatic and stylish person, leaving a legacy of cherished memories and a beautiful home that became a local attraction.
During the raid 23 years ago, his wife, daughter and a female house guest were locked in the boot of two cars during an ordeal which began shortly after 11pm.
His son Cathal paid tribute to his father at his funeral mass, describing him as a 'rogue' and a 'plamaser' who always had a 'glint in his eye.'
The family 'always marvelled' at his 'dapper clothes, his shining car, his boutique-style house,' and his perfectly manicured gardens which became 'a must see attraction for Dubliners and tourists.'
