Steffie Davies, a 32-year-old woman with anxiety who rarely left home, died in May 2023 in an extremely malnourished and neglected state. Paramedics found her weighing only five stone nine pounds at five foot seven inches, with matted hair, fungal infections, pressure sores, and joint contractures. Her parents, Alan and Bernita Davies, both 60, were each sentenced to eight years in prison for causing her death. The court heard she had been bed-bound for at least 12 months before her death and had not been outside since 2017. The judge noted she received no love or affection, only verbal abuse and indifference to her suffering. Her mother was known to neighbors as the mother from hell for her treatment of her children.
