Conor O'Brien, a 29-year-old from Kilpatrick, Ardee, Co Louth, was sentenced to eleven years in prison, with the last year suspended, after pleading guilty to importing military-grade firearms and ammunition. He was involved in selling these weapons to Irish criminal gangs. Following the decision by the Director of Public Prosecutions to drop money laundering charges against him, O'Brien had more than €17,000 in cash returned to him.
