Monster' who murdered cousin with axe in frenzied attack' jailed for life
A man was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 31 years for the axe murder of his cousin in her own home. He entered her house armed with an axe after letting himself in through an unlocked back door while she was speaking to her partner on the phone. The victim was struck at least five times to the head, face, chest, and arms. The court found the attack was planned and described it as frenzied. The judge said he appeared preoccupied with a self-made conspiracy theory involving a paedophile ring cover-up, with no evidence found. He had multiple prior convictions and offered no mitigation at sentencing.
"The judge sentenced him to a minimum of 31 years' life imprisonment, minus the 464 days he already spent in custody. The court heard Excell had 21 convictions since 1992 including of low-level violence, and the year before the murder had assaulted his father by biting him on the nose during a TV dinner. In 2023 Ms Lambourne gave her cousin Excell a lift and he lost it, threatened to kill her like a crazed maniac."
