The yellow warning, issued on Sunday night, is in force for more than 10 hours, between 10.40pm on Sunday and 9pm on Monday.
The alert covers large areas of the North East and Yorkshire, including Durham, Newcastle and York. Some dense fog is likely in places.
The forecaster warned traffic and travel disruption is possible in some areas due to fog. The warning said: Give yourself the best chance of avoiding delays.
