Marcus Fakana 'came back home and now he's gone'
"I just remember him in the class, it was a very charismatic class. He wasn't the loudest person in the room, but he was paying attention. I could see him looking up, making notes. But what I really remember is him being really respectful, being attentive and yeah, I kind of looked at him and thought, 'okay, this boy is going to go far'."
"bright, inquisitive, and full of life"
Marcus Fakana, 19, was a passenger in a car that collided with a lorry in Tottenham on 3 October and later died in hospital. The collision followed an attempt by Metropolitan Police officers to stop the vehicle. Marcus had returned to the UK three months earlier after release from a one-year prison sentence in the United Arab Emirates for consensual sex with a 17-year-old while on holiday. The Fakana family sought UK government help and Marcus received a royal pardon from Dubai authorities after six months. A former teacher at Gladesmore Community School described him as bright, inquisitive, respectful and attentive.
