A significant sinkhole emerged in Godstone, Surrey, following a water pipe burst, measuring at least 20 metres long. The incident has led to evacuations of homes and closure of Godstone High Street. Residents were warned of potential explosions due to exposed electric cables, prompting urgent evacuations. The sinkhole exposed historical issues related to the area's former sand quarry, with some residents believing there are caves beneath. Support is being coordinated by local councils, and temporary accommodations have been arranged for displaced families, as safety operations continue and road diversions remain.

Carl Bussey mentioned that around 30 properties were cordoned off and residents were supported by Tandridge District Council with accommodation advice.
