"Gatwick Airport has hiked its drop-off fees from today (January 6), making its charges the most expensive in the country. Vehicles dropping passengers off at the airport's official drop-off zone are now expected to pay a whopping 10 for just a 10-minute stay before departures. According to bosses from the Sussex-based airport, the drop-off charge may help reduce congestion at the terminal entrances. The increase in the drop-off charge will... encourage greater use of public transport, helping limit the number of cars and reduce congestion at the entrance to our terminals, said a spokesperson."
"From January 6, motorists will need to pay 10 to use the drop-off area for 10 minutes, with an additional 1 for each additional minute. Drivers must pay the charge by midnight the night after they use the drop-off zones. Payments are available through AutoPay, online, and over the phone. Those dropping off passengers at London's City Airport will now need to pay 8 to use the designated drop-off zone for just five minutes. An additional 1 will be added for every minute after that."
Gatwick Airport raised its drop-off charges to 10 for a 10-minute stay from January 6, making it the highest in the country. The increase is intended to reduce congestion at terminal entrances and encourage greater use of public transport. The airport cited rising costs and stated that passengers can still be dropped off in the long-term parking lot. Drivers must pay by midnight the night after using the drop-off zone, with payments accepted via AutoPay, online, or phone. London City Airport also increased its fee to 8 for five minutes; Black Cabs remain exempt.
