LNER reveals new 'next generation' fleet of trains
"LNER will receive 10 of the new Class 897 long-distance trains - the first introduced as part of Great British Railways (GBR), a new public body being set up by the UK government to run the renationalised UK rail network. Manufactured by CAF, the new 10-car trains will accommodate 569 passengers across standard and first class cabins, with the latter featuring roomy reclining seats."
"Passengers can also keep their devices fully charged with built-in USB-C ports and power sockets at every seat. As for accessibility, the trains will include improved, spacious wheelchair areas, redesigned bike storage with straps, and better luggage capacity. Tables have also been redesigned to give more room for wheelchair users, seat legs have been moved, creating additional space for assistance dogs, and a grab rail has been installed along the full length of the Café Bar."
LNER will introduce ten Class 897 'Serenza' 10-car trains on the East Coast Main Line between London and Scotland in the coming years. Each train will carry 569 passengers across standard and first class, with first class featuring roomy reclining seats. Enhanced seat pads, widened side bolsters and head cushions, and reshaped cushions will improve support, with materials selected for durability and sustainability. Onboard features include five water bottle refill stations, digital screens in each carriage, and USB-C ports and power sockets at every seat. Accessibility upgrades include spacious wheelchair areas, redesigned bike storage with straps, increased luggage capacity, redesigned tables, moved seat legs for assistance dogs, a full-length Café Bar grab rail, extra luggage racks near wheelchair spaces, and braille seat numbers. Standard Class will have an improved Café Bar stocked with local food and drinks.
