Lithuanian rower attempting to cross Pacific activates emergency beacon off Queensland near Cyclone Alfred
Briefly

Aurimas Mockus, a Lithuanian adventurer rowing from San Diego to Brisbane, activated an emergency beacon after struggling in 80 km/h winds and severe seas about 740 km east of Mackay. Despite a Cairns-based jet failing to locate him, they established communication. The Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Choules is now en route to assist Mockus. While weather conditions are easing near Coral Sea, the area remains under cyclone activity, complicating the rescue operation as the storm approaches the southern Queensland coast.
Aurimas Mockus initiated a distress call while attempting to row from San Diego to Brisbane as fierce winds and heavy seas posed significant threats to his safety.
With the Royal Australian Navy's HMAS Choules dispatched to assist Mockus, efforts are underway to assess the rower's condition amidst adverse weather conditions.
