Labour voters back doctors in five-day strike row in challenge to Wes Streeting
Briefly

Public support for junior doctors' planned five-day strike has declined significantly, with a new poll indicating 44% opposition compared to 34% support. Labour and green voters, however, express backing for the strike, while a majority of Tory, Reform, and Lib Dem voters oppose it. Health Secretary Wes Streeting has called for negotiations with doctors' union leaders to avert the strike, emphasizing that the government cannot meet the pay demands of resident doctors amidst concerns over NHS stability.
Labour voters support junior doctors' plans to stage a five-day walkout next week, even as public support for the strike collapses, according to a new poll.
Overall people oppose the industrial action due to start next Friday by a margin of 44 per cent to 34 per cent, pollsters More in Common found.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting has vociferously pressed doctors' leaders to ditch their plans, stating that the Government can't go further on pay for resident doctors.
Some 69 per cent of Tory voters are against the walkouts, followed by Reform voters at 63 per cent and Lib Dem voters at 55 per cent.
