Ade Adedeji, wrongfully imprisoned for three years on charges linked to a supposed gang conspiracy, was released in January after evidence cleared him. He revealed his initial blissful thoughts included a trip to Burger King and reuniting with family. Adedeji criticized the racial bias in the system's perception of black individuals, expressing that he felt he was unjustly labeled as a gang member due to his race. His tearful reunion with his mother marked an emotional highlight after marking over 1,200 days behind bars.
When asked about his experience, Adedeji expressed, "I feel like it has got to do with race, because if a white person said [what I said], I don't think they'd be in the same position as me. They wouldn't."
Reflecting on his time in prison, Adedeji recalled, "I remember tearing up. The whole wing, the whole jail, knew about my case, everyone was rooting for me... the place just erupted."
