Homeless men turned away from Holiday Inn hotel in sub-zero temperatures
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground."
"Two homeless men were refused entry to a Holiday Inn hotel in Manchester after temperatures plummeted below zero - despite a charity booking and paying for their accommodation in advance. In a video circulated online of the incident, staff members can be heard telling the men: I know that you're from the street and the hotel doesn't allow it. Speaking to the BBC, one of the men who was turned away said it was disgusting and that the hotel staff had made a judgement straight away."
Two homeless men were refused entry to a Holiday Inn in Manchester despite a charity having booked and paid for their accommodation as temperatures fell below zero. A circulated video recorded staff telling the men, "I know that you're from the street and the hotel doesn't allow it." Callum McDonagh, 30, who has been homeless for eight years, said being turned away felt disgusting and made him feel inadequate and embarrassed. Amanda Thompson of charity Two Brews accompanied the men after booking 200 rooms online with donations and her own money and obtained confirmation before the refusal.
