Havering village 28-home development moves closer
Briefly

Havering Council has approved an outline planning application for 28 homes on Broxhill Road, Havering-atte-Bower, which includes 11 affordable mews houses and 17 custom build houses. The plan seeks to address both housing needs and community concerns, although it faced objections from residents worried about infrastructure strain and the impact on local historical sites. Despite these concerns, planning officers asserted that the benefits of increased housing, particularly affordable options, justified proceeding with development on green belt land, which was deemed less impactful than existing warehouse structures.
The proposal is considered inappropriate development in green belt which by definition is harmful to its openness. However, due to factors pertinent to the development, it is considered that the proposal would be acceptable.
The development site is on green belt land, however, the council's planning team decided that the proposed housing would have less of an impact on this land than the warehouses currently on the site.
Havering-atte-Bower Conservation Society expressed concerns about the impact on an area of significant historical and archaeological interest, believing the plan would be detrimental to the village.
Six objections were received by neighbours, who feared the development would put extra strain on infrastructure and services like electricity and sewage.
