Harvard Russian scientist being held by ICE, charged with smuggling frog embryos into US
Briefly

Kseniia Petrova, a research associate at Harvard Medical School, was detained by ICE for attempting to smuggle frog embryos into the U.S. upon her return from Paris. Customs officials discovered the embryos in her luggage after she denied needing to declare them. Text messages revealed she was informed of the need to declare such biological materials. Petrova, facing up to 20 years in prison if convicted, has her lawyer claiming the charges are unwarranted and timed poorly with her immigration hearing.
"If you bring samples or antibody back, make sure you get the permission etc. Like that link I sent to leon-/group chat about frog embryos because TSA went through my bags at customs in Boston."
"What is your plan to pass the American Customs with samples? This is the most delicate place of the trajectory."
"No plan yet. I won't be able to swallow them."
"[The] hearing where the charges were filed was merely a formality. They are trying to make a big deal out of nothing."
