Briefly

Kseniia Petrova, a researcher at Harvard Medical School, has been indicted on additional federal charges concerning the smuggling of frog embryos into the US. Originally detained by ICE after being stopped at Boston Logan Airport, Petrova was accused of paperwork irregularities related to her scientific research. Despite her fears of persecution if deported to Russia, as the charges mounted, her colleagues highlighted the irreplaceable nature of her contributions to cancer research. She remains on pretrial release and maintains her innocence regarding the smuggling allegations.
"I did not realize that the items needed to be declared and was not trying to sneak anything into the country," said Petrova, reflecting on her case.
Her colleagues at Harvard expressed dismay at her treatment, emphasizing that her expertise in cancer research is irreplaceable, given her unique skill set.
