Harvard Medical Researcher Granted Bail in Immigration Case
Briefly

A federal judge has granted bail to Kseniia Petrova, a Harvard Medical School research associate detained for over three months by ICE for allegedly attempting to smuggle frog embryos into the U.S. Judge Christina Reiss ruled Petrova's immigration detention unjustified. Although bail was granted, the criminal charge remains, maintaining her detention. Her lawyer argued that evidence presented showed she posed no threat or flight risk. As of Wednesday, ICE and Homeland Security had not commented on the matter, and terms for her release are pending from the government.
"The hearing gave us the opportunity to present clear and convincing evidence that Kseniia Petrova was not carrying anything dangerous or unlawful, and that customs officers at Logan International Airport had no legal authority to revoke her visa or detain her."
"Judge Christina Reiss of the U.S. District Court of Vermont said in a hearing Wednesday that Petrova's immigration detention was unjustified and granted bail."
