Grenfell contractor to challenge ban in court
Briefly

A legal dispute has arisen as Siderise Insulation questions a ban imposed by Kensington and Chelsea Council on companies involved in the Grenfell Tower refurbishment. The council extended the ban to include Siderise, even though the Grenfell Inquiry found no evidence of wrongdoing by the company. Residents like Emma O'Connor express shock at Siderise's legal actions, emphasizing the distress caused by the incident. Siderise argues that their products do not fall within the criteria of the ban, which they call unwarranted and without basis. RBKC maintains its decision for safety.
Emma O'Connor, who escaped in a lift from the 20th floor with her partner during the fire, said she was shocked to hear of Siderise Insulation's legal challenge. "My first thoughts were 'they can't be serious'. We didn't ask for our lives to be disrupted by this fire. It's complete and utter disbelief," she told the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Siderise is acting to protect its reputation as a British manufacturer which supplies its products globally. The RBKC decision is therefore without foundation or justification.
The Grenfell Inquiry's Phase 2 report found no evidence of Siderise acting dishonestly on its part but said some products used did not meet safety standards.
A spokesperson for RBKC said the council stood by its decision regarding the contractors involved in the refurbishment of Grenfell Tower for safety concerns.
