A house fire in Hounslow, west London, on 12 November 2023 killed a wife, three children and two family friends during Diwali celebrations. London Fire Brigade believes the most probable cause was a firework igniting combustible recycling in a bin next to the house, though the origin of the firework is unknown. The surviving husband, Aroen Kishen, lost consciousness while trying to reach his family and later awoke to find the home engulfed. About 70 firefighters tackled the blaze, which spread to the roof and partly collapsed the internal staircase. Kishen urged people to think of others and warned that fireworks are dangerous.
