Expert reveals why you SHOULDN'T dry clothes outside during heatwave
Briefly

Home cleaning expert Nigel Bearman warns against hanging laundry outside during heatwaves due to rising pollen levels that aggravate hayfever symptoms. As temperatures soar to about 32°C, pollen counts are set to reach 'very high' levels across the UK. He explains that wet laundry absorbs pollen, which then settles in the fabric and can lead to increased allergic reactions. To mitigate these effects, Bearman recommends drying clothes indoors with good airflow instead of exposing them to pollen-rich air.
'Hanging your clothes, bedding or towels outside on high pollen days is a recipe for itchy eyes and a stuffy nose,' Mr Bearman explained.
'The wet laundry acts like a sponge, soaking up all the pollen. It settles into the fibres and clings on as the fabric dries...'
'On high pollen days, I always recommend drying your clothes indoors, ideally near a window or with decent airflow,' he advised.
According to the Met Office, pollen levels are 'very high' across the south of England and Wales today.
