"An elderly motorist has been arrested after a cyclist died in a suspected hit-and-run smash in south east London. A car driven by a 68-year-old man collided with a 34-year-old who was riding his bike on Old Kent Road near the junction with Dunton Road. London Ambulance Service treated him at the scene in Bermondsey. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he sadly died at around 7am on Friday."
"An investigation is underway, and officers are working to establish what happened. I'm appealing for anyone who saw the collision, or who may have captured footage of it on their dashcam, to please contact us as soon as possible. LAS added: We were called at 6.57am on November 21 to reports of a road traffic collision in Old Kent Road, Bermondsey."
A 34-year-old cyclist died after a car driven by a 68-year-old man collided with him on Old Kent Road near Dunton Road in Bermondsey. London Ambulance Service, paramedics in fast response cars and a trauma team from London's Air Ambulance attended; the first paramedic arrived in under five minutes. Despite attempts to save him, the cyclist died at about 7am. The driver failed to stop but was later traced, detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail pending further enquiries. Next of kin have been informed and are being supported. Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
