Detained mental health patient died from head injuries while in hospital - court

Andrew George Messum, 70, died following injuries sustained while in state detention under the Mental Health Act. A coroner stated that a jury inquest will likely occur, given that Mr. Messum's injuries contributed to his death and he was in custody when they happened. His death was attributed to bronchopneumonia resulting from a subdural haematoma. The coroner outlined that both the family and the NHS Trust involved are granted status to gather evidence and participate actively in the inquest process.
